Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour

  • 300 g plain flour
  • 300 g wholemeal flour
  • 100 g oats
  • 100 ml treacle
  • 25 g brown sugar/honey
  • 200 ml Guinness
  • 200 ml buttermilk
  • 100 ml vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Handful of sesame seeds and oats

  • Preheat the oven to 180℃ fan oven. Line the loaf tin with paper liners or parchment paper. Pour the Guinness and allow it to settle.
  • Sieve the plain flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt together. Stir in the wholemeal flour and the oats.
  • In a separate jug, combine the Guinness, buttermilk and vegetable oil.
  • Using a wooden spoon, make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and stir in the wet ingredients.
  • Spoon into the tins, give a gentle tap and sprinkle a small handful of oats and seeds on top.
  • Place in the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 60 minutes.
  • Allow to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then cool on a wire tray.
  • When fully cooled, wrap in cling film and freeze.

This bread is so incredibly moist and flavourful, a perfect accompaniment to my Smoked Salmon Paté this festive season.
