A Morning at Glenilen Farm

A Morning at Glenilen Farm

A behind-the-scenes look at Glenilen Farm, exploring how meaningful relationships, shared values and authentic storytelling create partnerships that resonate far beyond the product itself.

Some of the most memorable conversations happen away from the cameras.

They happen walking through fields, standing in production kitchens, or gathered around a table with a cup of coffee, talking about food, family and the journey that has brought a business to where it is today.

That was exactly the feeling as I spent the morning with Alan and Valerie Kingston at Glenilen Farm in the heart of West Cork.

For many people, Glenilen Farm is a familiar name found in the dairy aisle—known for its beautifully creamy natural yoghurts, butter, cream and cultured dairy products. What isn’t always visible is the remarkable story behind the brand. Built on the Kingston family farm, Glenilen has remained steadfast in its commitment to using fresh local milk, simple ingredients and traditional methods, proving that quality never needs to shout. It simply speaks for itself.

There is an honesty about the place that is impossible not to admire.

The rolling West Cork landscape, the calm confidence of a family who have spent decades refining their craft and the pride that comes from producing food with genuine integrity all create something that feels increasingly rare. While the business has grown significantly over the years, its values remain exactly where they began—rooted in family, community, sustainability and a belief that exceptional ingredients deserve exceptional care.

As someone who has spent my career championing Irish food, I never take these opportunities for granted.

Being invited behind the scenes is always a privilege. It allows me to understand the story beyond the product—the decisions, the challenges, the passion and the people whose work often goes unseen. Those are the details that never fit on a label, yet they are the very things that shape how we connect with food.

When I develop recipes, create television content, write features or collaborate with brands, this understanding becomes invaluable. Every audience is looking for authenticity. They want to know where their food comes from, who made it and why it deserves a place in their homes. They are looking for stories they can trust.

That belief has shaped every collaboration throughout my career.

For me, the most successful partnerships are never transactional. They are relationships built over time, founded on shared values and a genuine admiration for one another’s craft. I want to spend time with the people behind the business. I want to understand the heritage, the innovation and the ambition that drives them forward because that is how meaningful stories are created.

It’s something Glenilen Farm understands instinctively.

Listening to Alan speak about preserving traditional methods while continuing to innovate for today’s consumer, it became clear that their success has never been about following trends. It has come from remaining true to their principles while evolving thoughtfully alongside the families who welcome Glenilen products into their kitchens every day. That balance between heritage and modern living is something I find deeply inspiring, and it mirrors much of my own work—encouraging people to embrace simple, nourishing food that fits beautifully into contemporary life.

Visits like these continually remind me that food is about so much more than ingredients.

It is about people.

It is about place.

It is about relationships.

"The strongest partnerships begin long before a campaign. They begin with curiosity, mutual respect and a shared belief in telling stories that genuinely matter."

Aisling Larkin

Behind every trusted brand is a community of producers, farmers, makers and innovators who care deeply about what they do. Their stories deserve to be heard, not simply because they help us understand the product, but because they remind us of the value of craftsmanship, provenance and producing food with purpose.

As a broadcaster, food writer and wellness strategist, I see my role as connecting those stories with the people who will appreciate them most. Whether that is through television, journalism, live events, recipe development or strategic brand partnerships, my aim is always the same: to translate years of expertise into conversations that feel relevant, accessible and genuinely inspiring.

That is where trust is built.

Not through louder marketing, but through better storytelling.

I left Glenilen Farm with enormous admiration for everything Alan, Valerie and their team have created. Their warmth, generosity and quiet confidence perfectly reflect the business they have built—one that continues to champion Irish dairy while remaining firmly connected to the values that made it so special in the first place.

It was a wonderful reminder that the strongest brands are rarely built overnight. Like the best relationships, they grow steadily through consistency, care and an unwavering commitment to doing things well.

I am always grateful for the opportunity to spend time with the people shaping Ireland’s food landscape. Every visit offers fresh perspective, renewed inspiration and another story worth sharing. Those relationships continue to influence my work every day, and they remain one of the greatest privileges of what I do.
