It was a pleasure to join The Claire Byrne Show on Newstalk to celebrate one of summer’s simplest pleasures – peaches. I hope you enjoy listening back to our conversation and discover a few easy ways to make the most of this seasonal fruit, whether you’re preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner or something sweet in between.

There’s something special about a perfectly ripe peach. Its aroma, sweetness and juicy texture make it one of the fruits that truly marks the arrival of summer. Beyond enjoying it fresh, peaches are incredibly versatile and pair beautifully with both sweet and savoury ingredients, making them an easy addition to everyday meals.

During our conversation, we explored practical ways to use peaches throughout the day. From griddling them for salads to gently cooking them with brown butter and vanilla for breakfast toppings or desserts, simple preparation can completely transform their flavour. We also discussed how pairing peaches with ingredients such as mozzarella, feta, basil or even smoky meats creates balanced dishes by combining sweetness with salt, acidity and a little heat.

Seasonal fruit doesn’t need to be complicated to be exciting. A few thoughtful additions to ingredients you already have at home can create colourful, satisfying meals with very little effort. If you find yourself with peaches that are ripening quickly, marinating or lightly cooking them is an easy way to extend their use for a few more days while adding even more flavour.

"That's the thing about peaches; they force us to be in the season."

We also touched on the nutritional value of peaches, reminding us that seasonal eating can be both enjoyable and nourishing. Naturally containing fibre and low in calories, peaches are an easy way to add colour, freshness and variety to your plate. And when summer comes to an end, tinned peaches can be a convenient alternative, helping you enjoy many of the same recipes all year round.

Whether you’re enjoying them straight from the fruit bowl, adding them to a fresh salad or transforming them into a simple dessert, peaches are a wonderful reminder that some of the most satisfying meals begin with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
