Miso and Balsamic Red Onion Chutney

  • 6 large red onions
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp miso paste
  • 30 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 50 ml balsamic vinegar
  • Pinch salt


  • Peel and finely slice the onions.
  • Warm the butter and oil, add in the onions and slow cook for 20-25 minutes. Remove from the heat
  • Add in the miso and maple and gradually add in the cider vinegar and the balsamic vinegar.
  • Add slowly, taste and adjust. Season as needed.
