Slow cooker Hot Chocolate

I love a proper, rice, decadent, creamy hot chocolate. It is one of life’s greatest little pleasures. 

This is made in the slow cooker, but you can do it on the hob low and slow. 

You can also make this a little boozy by adding ins some Irish cream liqueur, some of the new Kaluha vanilla cold brew, some coointreau for that chocolate orange vibe or my personal favourite is adding a drop of Frangelico ( a hazelnut liqueur which brings all the Nutella feels). 


Remember do not give to children if there is any alcohol added.

Slow Cooker Rich and Creamy Hot Chocolate

  • 20 g cornflour
  • 35 g cocoa powder
  • 750 ml whole milk
  • 150 ml double cream
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 100 g 70% dark chocolate broken into small pieces
  • Sugar or honey optional, to taste
  • Whipped cream optional
  • Marshamallows
  • Mini sugar decorations Lidl, Aldi, Homestore & More



  • Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients:
  • Whisk together cornflour and cocoa powder in the slow cooker. In a separate jug, combine whole milk, double cream, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry, ensuring a smooth liquid.
  • Add Dark Chocolate and Set Slow Cooker:
  • Introduce broken dark chocolate pieces to the mixture in the slow cooker. Close the lid and set it to high. Cook for approximately 1 hour, whisking after 20 minutes and again at the 30-minute mark as it thickens.
  • Adjust Sweetness:
  • Whisk in sugar or honey to taste, adjusting the sweetness according to your preference.
  • Keep Warm and Serve:
  • Keep the hot chocolate warm in the slow cooker. Whisk just before serving to smooth out any skin on the top. Ladle into small cups and, optionally, top with whipped cream.
  • Enjoy:
  • Serve this rich and creamy slow-cooked hot chocolate for a delightful treat during gatherings or cozy evenings.
