10 Things I’m Buying In My Weekly Food Shop Right Now

From Irish artisan finds to smart shortcuts, nourishing staples and a few things purely for enjoyment, these are the 10 products making their way into my trolley right now.
A weekly food shop, for me, is never about perfection.
It is about building a kitchen that works for real life: nourishing staples, ingredients that make cooking easier, products that bring flavour and variety and, of course, a few things that are simply there because they bring joy.
I am a huge believer in better, not best. Eating well does not have to mean making everything from scratch, buying everything labelled “healthy” or getting every meal right. It is about awareness, permission and choice — and filling your trolley with foods that genuinely work for your lifestyle.
From Irish producers I have championed for years to clever convenience products, fridge staples and a few delicious discoveries, these are 10 things making their way into my weekly food shop right now.
1. A Taste of Home Brown Bread
There are some things I will always make room for in the weekly food shop, and a really good loaf of brown bread is one of them.
This is exactly the kind of product I love to champion: simple, rooted in real ingredients and made with genuine care. A Taste of Home Brown Bread is the kind of loaf that earns its place in the kitchen — equally good toasted for breakfast, piled high for lunch or served alongside a simple bowl of soup for supper.
For me, a great weekly shop is about choosing ingredients that work hard for you. Foods that offer versatility, nourishment and, importantly, something you genuinely look forward to eating.
This is one of those buys.

2. West of Dingle Sea Salt
I have been championing West of Dingle Sea Salt for a long time now, and it remains one of those products I am genuinely never without.
For me, it is a perfect example of why provenance matters. Hand-harvested from the wild Atlantic and crafted on the Dingle Peninsula, this is a simple ingredient with a real sense of place behind it.
A good sea salt is one of the hardest-working ingredients in my kitchen. It can lift the simplest plate of food, bring out flavour and turn everyday ingredients into something that feels that little bit more special. I use it across everything from eggs and vegetables to fish, salads and roasted dishes.
West of Dingle is beautifully simple: Irish Atlantic sea salt, crafted with care, with nothing unnecessary added. It is the kind of kitchen cupboard staple I love most — uncomplicated, versatile and rooted in the place it comes from.
And, having championed this Irish producer for years, it is still one I am delighted to have in my weekly shop.

3. Glenilen Farm Kids’ Yoghurt Pouches
The Glenilen Farm Kids’ Yoghurt Pouches are a weekly-shop staple in our house.
As a proud Glenilen Farm Brand Ambassador and part of the wider Glenilen Farm family, it is a product I am particularly delighted to champion.
For busy mornings, packed lunches and those inevitable “I’m hungry” moments, these are exactly the kind of smart, practical staples I love to have on hand. Perfectly portioned, easy to pack and, importantly, mess-free, they make a brilliant addition to the lunchbox.
Sometimes the best food choices are the ones that simply make everyday life that little bit easier.
A genuinely useful fridge staple — and one I will be adding to the weekly shop again and again.

4. Nibbed Cacao
A little bag of Nibbed Cacao is one of those small but mighty additions to my weekly food shop.
I am a big believer in having a few smart ingredients in the kitchen that can instantly add texture, flavour and variety to everyday meals — and cacao nibs do exactly that.
With their rich, slightly bitter chocolate flavour and satisfying crunch, they are incredibly versatile. I sprinkle them over yoghurt and porridge, add them to smoothies, use them in baking or simply scatter them over a bowl of fruit when I want to make something simple feel a little more interesting.
They are also a brilliant way to bring more variety into everyday eating.
For me, this is what a modern food shop looks like: a mix of everyday essentials alongside a few ingredients that inspire you to experiment, add variety and make simple food feel anything but boring.

5. Shines Seafood
One of the smartest things you can add to your weekly food shop? A few really good seafood staples.
I love having Shines Seafood in the cupboard because their range makes it incredibly easy to bring more variety to everyday meals. From tuna to sardines, mackerel and salmon, these are the kinds of ingredients that can turn a simple lunch or supper into something nourishing and delicious with very little effort.
Tinned fish is one of my favourite examples of a smart ingredient that works hard for you. Add tuna to a vibrant grain salad, pile sardines onto good toast, fold mackerel through a salad or use salmon as the starting point for an easy lunch.
These are everyday ingredients with serious versatility.
I particularly love having a selection on hand for those weeks when the fridge feels a little bare and you need something quick. A tin of quality fish, some good vegetables, a simple dressing and whatever grains or potatoes you have to hand — lunch or dinner, sorted.
For me, this is what a modern weekly food shop is all about: building a kitchen full of ingredients that make eating well feel easier, not more complicated.

6. O’Donnell’s Crisps
A weekly food shop should always have room for a little bit of enjoyment — and right now, I am making space for these.
Rachel Allen has partnered with O’Donnell’s Crisps to launch two limited-edition potato crisp flavours, and they bring a very welcome Irish foodie twist to the crisp aisle.
Sunday Roast captures the familiar, comforting flavours of a traditional Irish roast dinner, while Sea Salt & Truffle brings together earthy truffle notes with a classic sea salt finish.
Two very different flavours, but both perfect for those moments when you want something a little more interesting than your everyday crisp.
They are ideal for relaxed weekends, serving alongside a good sandwich for lunch or putting out when friends call over.
Because eating well is not about making every choice “perfect”. It is about awareness, permission and choice. A balanced food shop has room for the nourishing staples, the ingredients that work hard for you and the foods you simply enjoy.
Because better, not best, is always the goal.

7. Dunnes Stores Simply Better Sicilian Lemon Steamed Greens
I am always looking for smart shortcuts that make getting more vegetables onto the plate easier — and these Simply Better Sicilian Lemon Steamed Greens are exactly that.
A bag of prepared greens might seem like a small thing, but on a busy weeknight, having something in the fridge that can go straight from pack to plate can make all the difference.
I love pairing them with a simple piece of fish or chicken, alongside eggs for an easy lunch, or as a quick vegetable side to whatever else is on the menu.
For me, a modern food shop is about being realistic about how we actually live. Yes, I love cooking from scratch, but I also believe in choosing good-quality convenience foods when they genuinely make life easier.
Convenience and eating well do not have to be opposites.
If a clever shortcut means you are more likely to eat the vegetables in your fridge, then I am all for it.

A useful, flavourful and genuinely practical addition to the weekly trolley.

8. Builín Blasta Smoked Onion Mayo
A really good condiment can completely transform a meal — and Builín Blasta’s Smoked Onion Mayo is exactly the kind of flavour-packed ingredient I love having in the fridge.
This is one of those products that does a lot of the hard work for you. Rich, creamy and packed with the deep, savoury flavour of smoked onion, a spoonful can instantly elevate the simplest plate of food.
I love it with roasted vegetables, alongside fish, spread into a sandwich or wrap, or served with crispy potatoes. It is also brilliant for adding a little extra flavour to an otherwise simple lunch or midweek dinner.
For me, smart ingredients are not always about adding another complicated recipe to your week. Sometimes, they are about having a few really good products on hand that help you make everyday food taste better with minimal effort.
This is exactly that: a little jar of flavour that can make the simplest meal feel much more interesting.

9. SISU Vitamin D Shot
As we move into autumn and winter, this is the point in the year when I start thinking a little more intentionally about the small habits and staples that support us through the changing seasons.
The SISU Vitamin D Shot is one of those easy additions to the weekly shop. Small, convenient and simple to incorporate into your routine, it is a practical option as daylight hours become noticeably shorter.
I am a big believer that wellness does not need to be complicated. It is often about the small, consistent choices we make — the nourishing food we eat, getting outside when we can, prioritising movement and paying attention to what our bodies might need as the seasons change.
As we head towards autumn and winter, this is one of those simple seasonal additions I will be keeping on my radar.
Because looking after ourselves is rarely about doing everything perfectly. It is about awareness, making informed choices and finding realistic ways to support how we want to live and feel.
A small addition to the weekly shop — but one that fits beautifully into a more intentional approach to the changing season.

10. The Foodie Guy
The final thing making its way into my weekly food shop is The Foodie Guy — an Irish artisan brand bringing chef-quality chilled sauces to everyday meals.
Created in County Meath by Executive Chef Asor and his wife, Aury, the range is handmade in small batches using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
There are three sauces in the range, each designed to make everyday food taste that little bit more exciting. Truffle Sauce is rich and luxurious with fresh lemon, Mild Garlic Sauce brings fresh, vibrant flavour to everything from grilled vegetables to seafood, while Umami Cheezy Sauce adds a deeply savoury, moreish finish to pasta, roasted vegetables and everyday meals.
This is exactly the kind of smart food innovation I love to champion — great flavour, quality ingredients and a clever shortcut for making simple food taste seriously good.

The Weekly Food Shop, Edited
For me, a good weekly food shop is never about buying the “perfect” basket of food.
It is about creating a kitchen that supports the way you actually live.
A little planning. Plenty of variety. Real food. Smart shortcuts. Ingredients that work hard for you. Great Irish producers. And always, always, room for the foods that bring you joy.
Better, not best.
Because eating well should feel useful, accessible and delicious — not like another thing to get right.
