Back-to-school is here — six easy, nourishing lunchbox recipes to help fuel our little ones, bring a little variety to the week and make busy mornings that bit simpler.

Back-to-school always feels like a natural moment to reset — not just the school bags and bedtime routines, but how we’re fuelling our little ones too.

Growing bodies and busy minds need regular, nourishing fuel. Think protein for growth and repair, fibre for fullness and gut health, healthy fats, wholegrain carbohydrates for energy, and plenty of colourful fruit and vegetables for variety. It’s not about creating the perfect lunchbox; it’s about building a pattern of good nourishment across the day.

And this is where a little mindful preparation can make such a difference. Batch-cook where you can, freeze portions ahead and have a few reliable favourites ready to reach for. It takes the pressure out of those busy mornings and gives us more choice when the inevitable “I don’t want that” arrives.

"For me, nourishing our children isn’t about creating the perfect lunchbox. It’s about giving them the right foundations — variety, balance and food they genuinely enjoy — while taking the pressure off ourselves. A little preparation, a little awareness and a lot of flexibility can go a long way."

For me, the start of a new school term is an opportunity to come back to simple routines, variety and awareness. To notice what our children enjoy, what keeps them satisfied and where we can gently introduce something new — without pressure or perfection. Better, not best.
